This conviction is not new: it runs through the history of the continent and its diaspora, borne by those who, from Accra to Addis Ababa, from Conakry to Pretoria, affirmed that no African nation would rise lastingly alone. Union is no abstract ideal; it is the very condition of our sovereignty, our prosperity, and our influence in the world.
A necessity for Africans: to come together.
JAMAA is not merely another platform. It answers a demand that the continent's history has taught us: the demand of gathering.
Scattered by borders inherited from another age, set apart from one another by the vastness of the diaspora, the children of Africa have too long overlooked the strength that lies in their numbers. Talents remain unknown to one another, organisations remain unaware of one another, and precious opportunities are lost for want of a link between those who create them and those who might seize them.
JAMAA — a Swahili word denoting family, the wider community — aspires to be the infrastructure of this gathering. It brings together, in a single space, the people, organisations, and communities of Africa and its diaspora, so that each may be known, recognised, and called upon for what they know how to do.
Our ambition rests on four imperatives:
TO KNOW
To take stock of the full breadth of talent, knowledge, and experience that make up our continent and its diaspora.
TO CONNECT
To link the people, organisations, and opportunities that, kept apart, remain unaware of one another.
TO VALUE
To bring to light the skills, initiatives, and achievements of each individual.
TO BUILD
To build together the stronger, fairer, and more prosperous future that Africa deserves.
To come together is no longer a choice: it is a necessity to which our times summon us. JAMAA exists to answer that call.
