Platform rules

Terms of use

The operating rules behind JAMAA — matching, payments, contact sharing, moderation and data.

Last updated : 2026-10-03

By using JAMAA, you agree to the rules below. They reflect how the platform actually works, including its limits — please read them before accepting.

1. Purpose of the platform

JAMAA connects members across Africa and its diaspora: directory, news, Culture & Heritage, job listings, companies, service marketplace and service requests. JAMAA facilitates these exchanges but is not a party to any agreement made between members.

2. Service requests (quote-based matching)

A service request ("My requests") follows this path: sent → quoted → accepted → completed (or declined/cancelled). JAMAA does not process, hold, or guarantee any payment tied to these requests — this is a matching service, not a marketplace with built-in payment.

3. Settlement between members, off-platform

Once a quote is accepted, the client and the provider arrange payment directly between themselves — JAMAA is never involved. As a result, JAMAA offers no dispute mediation or refund guarantee for these requests: each party remains responsible for vetting the other and the terms agreed before paying for a service.

4. Direct service purchases (marketplace)

For a direct purchase at the listed price (immediate card payment via Stripe or via YengaPay), JAMAA takes a platform commission from the amount paid out to the seller — the amount the buyer pays is never increased. This flow is separate from the service requests described above.

5. Contact sharing

No contact detail (email, phone, CV) is ever shared automatically from your profile. Another member can only see them if you accept their connection request; for an accepted service request, each party may also explicitly choose to share their contact details, visible to the other only once both have done so. You can protect your contact details in your profile at any time: no other member can then see them. Staying reachable only through JAMAA messaging is a valid option at any time.

6. Publishing and moderation

Content submitted for publication (services, news, jobs, companies, Culture & Heritage articles, community posts) is reviewed by authorized moderators before going live. JAMAA may refuse, suspend or remove content that breaches these rules or applicable law.

7. Member account

You are responsible for the accuracy of the information provided at sign-up and for keeping your credentials confidential. Access to the app is blocked until your email address is verified via the activation link sent at sign-up.

8. Expected conduct

Hateful, fraudulent, misleading content, or content that harms third parties, is prohibited and may lead to account suspension in addition to removal of the content involved.

9. Personal data

Your data is used to run the directory, matching and member connections, according to the visibility settings you choose in your profile. Your profile belongs to you: only you write it. Exceptionally, a JAMAA super administrator may correct it for a legitimate reason (a correction you asked for, content breaching these rules or the law, a legal obligation). The reason is mandatory; every intervention is recorded in an audit log with the changed fields and their previous values, and you are notified immediately with the reason. Your sign-in email and photo are never changed by the administration. You have the right to access, rectify, object to and erase your data, including the history of these interventions: contact support.

10. Limits of liability

JAMAA provides a matching infrastructure "as is". JAMAA does not guarantee the quality of a service, the accuracy of a listing published by a member, or the outcome of a negotiation between members.

11. Suspension and termination

JAMAA may suspend or close an account that breaches these rules. You can request deactivation of your account at any time from your settings.

12. Changes to these rules

These rules may evolve with the platform. Any substantial change will be presented to you again for acceptance before you can keep using your account.

13. Contact

For any question about these rules, contact JAMAA support.
